Mitsubishi Corporation Considering the Possibility of Expanding Activities in Kazakhstan
Astana, 13 November 2024 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC “Kazakh Invest” Madiyar Sultanbek held a meeting with the CEO of Mitsubishi Corporation in Kazakhstan Tetsuya Sugita.
During the talks, Kuantyrov stressed that Kazakhstan’s new investment policy aims to develop high-value-added industries with an emphasis on further exports. In this regard, advanced Japanese technologies can strengthen human and technological capabilities.
During the meeting, representatives of Mitsubishi Corporation presented their corporate strategy 2024, aimed at sustainable development and reducing the carbon footprint. During the meeting, the Kazakh side was presented with such promising projects as the creation of infrastructure for the use of hydrogen technologies and the development of solutions in the field of renewable energy. In this regard, the importance that the company attaches to energy innovations, digital transformation, and high-tech production is fully consistent with Kazakhstan’s goals for developing a low-carbon economy.
The parties discussed key areas for cooperation in sustainable development, including introducing advanced technologies and implementing projects in the energy sector, infrastructure, and industry. Mitsubishi Corporation representatives expressed interest in expanding the company’s presence in Kazakhstan and implementing new initiatives to support the region’s sustainable development. On the sidelines of the C5+Japan business forum, Mitsubishi Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Asia Climate Foundation and Rakurs Tech LLC.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop cooperation, taking into account the company’s global initiatives in energy and digital transformation.

Mitsubishi Corporation representative office was opened in the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1993. In 1998 the corporation became a member of the Council of Foreign Investors chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the years of work in the country, the corporation attracted other companies of Mitsubishi Group, such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Motors, Metal One, for business development and various projects in the country. It also participated in the promotion and supply of goods and equipment from other Japanese manufacturers such as Bridgestone truck and industrial tires, Hitachi construction and mining machinery, electronics from Toshiba, Fujitsu and Sharp, and more. As part of the environmental improvement business line, the corporation developed the introduction of advanced Japanese technologies to reduce emissions from coal-fired power plants. As part of the human and cultural resources development activities, the corporation promoted Japanese ODA grant assistance to various educational and cultural institutions in Kazakhstan, and the corporation also provided scholarships for Kazakhstani students to study in Japan.
